Inverroche Bee&Bee: Innovative packaging designed to save bees

Problem

Solitary bees are essential for populating 1/3 of the world’s food crops, including the Fynbos botanical from which Inverroche’s gin is made. Without them, we would cease to exist. Unlike the well-known honey bee, solitary bees don’t live in hives; they live in holes found in nature. However, due to human interference, their nesting grounds are disappearing, putting us all at risk.

Solution

Bee hotels were developed to mimic solitary bees’ natural nesting grounds, and we found an innovative way to incorporate them into our packaging. Introducing the Inverroche Bee&Bee – pioneering packaging that houses our gin and transforms into a bee hotel, enabling consumers to provide solitary bees with safe new homes.

We faced many challenges in creating functional packaging that transforms into fully functioning bee hotels while remaining environmentally conscious. Everything from the materials used to the manufacturing process was considered, ensuring that the Bee&Bees were as good to the rest of the environment as they were to the bees.

Result

In our launch phase, we provided accommodation for 672 000 little occupants, and we project over 2.9 million more in phases two and three. Beyond that, Pernod Ricard is using the Bee&Bee as a global benchmark for sustainable and conscious packaging across their entire portfolio, challenging other brands to match its impact. Inverroche is the most awarded product in the entire Pernod Ricard stable globally.
